All the Malec Feels: With Magnus (Harry Shum Jr) finally breaking down and telling Alec (Matthew Daddario) about this horrible memory he’s been dealing with, what’s next for the couple? “Getting to write these emotive, beautiful, sensitive moments where we’re getting character work and we’re understanding characters histories is really the juice for us,” Swimmer said. “Amazing stuff lies ahead with Malec. This is just, kind of, the beginning in terms of the depth that we’re trying to explore. And that’s not to say that there’s not joy ahead. That there’s not smiles and there’s not lots of beautiful, upbeat moments, but in order to get there, we explore the depth, and it’s pretty cool.”
But is the memory of his mother all in the past now? “Magnus’ past is much deeper than just this little tidbit, and it will be a continual [reveal]. He hasn’t come out and had a [moment] where he’s just told Alec everything, [but] it’s happening,” Slavkin said. “He’s parceling it out, and there’s definitely more stuff and things that he wants to keep hidden from Alec. But this particular story is closed-ended, in terms of the mother committing suicide and then his stepfather coming in and burning the stepfather. There’s not more to that particular story.”

Shadowhunters and Stitchers fans have another reason to be excited this summer! Cast members from both shows have revealed via social media that they will be attending San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Based on standard scheduling for other shows attending the convention, we think it’s safe to assume that each series will hold a panel in addition to an autograph session with fans.
This year, San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 19-23, which means that the Stitchers panel will take place in between Episodes 6 and 7 and the Shadowhunters panel will take place between episodes 16 and 17. Comic-Con is also the weekend after the D23 Expo, where some cast members from both shows will also be available for autographs.
Stitchers fans found out from Damon Dayoub during a Facebook live chat last week that the cast would be in attendance, and though some fans had already speculated that Shadowhunters would join them at the convention, it was confirmed by Kat McNamara during a live Instagram chat on July 3 that she would be going to SDCC as well.
So which day will Freeform be hosting panels and autographs? Looking at what’s been released so far about scheduling across the convention center, our money’s on Thursday (but we’ll have to wait for the official conformation to be sure). Even though this is the first time either show will make an appearance at SDCC, both shows have attended New York Comic Con, which takes place in early October.

So far we don’t know if Harry will be going to SDCC!

Of course, the real drama of this week’s episode came from Magnus and Valentine’s adventures in body swapping. Though their souls were eventually returned to the correct meat bags, the experience left its mark — so to speak — on Magnus, who relived horrific childhood memories while being tortured with the agony rune.
“He has a rally troubled history, so building upon that is really important,” Harry Shum Jr. tells TVLine of Magnus’ background, which will continue to be explored this season. “It’s not something he wanted to revisit. And it will definitely affect his storyline with Alec, hopefully bringing them closer together and giving them a deeper understanding of one another. Alec is going to become much more sympathetic to life as a Downworlder.”
And if you picked up on a little tension between Alec and Magnus in their final scene together, don’t worry, you’re not totally insane.
“When you revisit a difficult childhood memory or a traumatizing experience, you sometimes end up redirecting your feelings about it,” Shum Jr. explains. “You can’t always say ‘This is what I went through’ and move on. The frustration lies in when other people don’t understand why you’re acting a certain way.”
As for Sebastian — who helped Clary tap into her true power this week, before being turned down for a date with her — don’t expect to see Magnus warming up to him any time soon.
“Magnus doesn’t trust any Shadowhunter,” Shum Jr. reminds us, save for his brooding boyfriend. “So I would say a big fat no right now. That might change over tim. We’ll see.”
