Katherine McNamara recently mentioned Harry in an interview with Buzzfeed

13. And during the entire run of the series, Kat said one of the people she learned from the most was Harry Shum Jr.
She gushed about Harry’s work ethic, saying, “He’s the Magnus to my Clary in every sense. Harry’s just a master to work with. He really is. He knows so much, is so smart, so funny, and so quick on his feet, that it’s like watching a master’s class working with them.”

Hello everyone,
just a short message that this site isn’t dead or anything but thanks to the pandemic a lot of things stopped happening,e.g. events in Hollywood so no new photos. And conventions Harry is announced as guests for are all postponed till next year. Sadly with nothing happening this site has gotten less visitors as usually so maybe by tomorrow the site and gallery will be gone, I don’t know for sure but it can happen. Don’t worry though, I won’t leave. I’m still on Twitter and I might relaunch my Tumblr page as well 🙂 Keep an eye out on my Twitter for more about that.

In case my site is really gone soon I just want to thank each and everyone for visiting during those 4 years the site was online. And don’t be too sad: I’ll still be on Twitter and posting news and new photos in hd if possible as soon as I can.

Have a nice evening everyone and see ya

Edit: The convention has been postponed to September 11 to 13!

I just realized that I never actually posted something about the photos I posted from the Shadowhunters convention Pandemonium Con 2 in London back in October 2019, guests were Matthew Daddario, Nicola Correia-Damude, Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Luke Baines, Chai Hansen, Jade Hassouné. So here are the links to the photos

I hope you all had a wonderful start into the year 2020 :). I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Harry in 2020.

As I already announced on Twitter there will also be more autograph giveaways happening this year, sadly Harry isn’t confirmed as guest for any convention in Europe yet so I can’t promise autograph giveaways of Harry for now but there will be a Nicola and a Matthew one after Pandemonium Con 3 in London in October 😉

We did it guys. Shadowhunters won in the category the show was nominated in!

Harry was cast in Movie Thriller ‘Broadcast Signal Intrusion’

As you know from my tweets I was recently at the Pandemonium Convention in London and I brought back another autograph of Matthew Daddario that I will giveaway late in November so keep an eye on my Twitter 🙂 I will also post hd photos of both convention days, even though sadly Harry wasn’t a guest at the convention but Matt, Kat, Dom, Nicola, Luke, Chai and Jade were there.

Shum Jr. will star opposite Jessica Rothe in the film based on a real-life couple who was faced with devastating news as they were planning their wedding.

Crazy Rich Asians actor Harry Shum Jr. will star in Universal’s All My Life, inspired by the life of Jenn Carter and her husband Solomon Chau.

Shum Jr., also known for his starring role on six seasons of the hit show Glee, will play Chau, while Jessica Rothe has been cast as Carter.

The bittersweet story centers on a young couple as they plan their wedding in the face of devastating news. The couple, who had been planning their Toronto wedding since April 2014, found out that Chau had liver cancer in December of that year. To make sure they got the wedding of their dreams, they moved the date up to April 11, 2015, and they raised more than $52,000 through a GoFundMe account. They were married for four months before he died.

All 6 autograph giveaways are over and all winners received their prices but fear not Pandemonium Con in London is close and I’ll be there and I will bring back at least 1 more autograph that a lucky winner will win. So look out for more giveaways on my Twitter account on October 😉

We all did our best but in the end for some reason neither Shadowhunters nor members of cast were nominated often apart from one episode

As you might know I attended The Italian Institute 3 in Milan last Sunday and I once again had the best time ever. I got to meet Harry again and also Emeraude and Luke who I hadn’t met before. It was an exhausting day but it was definitely worth it!

As promised here are more photos of The Hunters of Shadow in Brussels last weekend

As you might know I attended The Hunters of Shadow in Brussels last weekend and I had the best time ever. I finally got to meet Harry after I waited more than 8 years for it.
I’m also doing three more autograph giveaways (1 Harry, 1 Matt and 1 Kat autograph) soon so keep an eye on my Twitter ;).

Hanging with the Shadowhunters cast is SO MUCH FUN. Want proof? Just check out these outtakes from our Farewell to Shadowhunters series, featuring Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr, Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alisha Wainwright, Alberto Rosende, Isaiah Mustafa, and Luke Baines (singing a lovely rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Dream Lover”).

Yesterday Harry and Shelby attended the premiere of Always Be My Maybe

We sat down with Shadowhunters stars Harry Shum Jr and Matthew Daddario to talk about the series finale of the Freeform hit and where they see Malec in the future.

Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Emeraude Toubia & Harry Shum Jr talk to the fans from the set of the series finale.

Shadowhunters Series Finale: The Cast Gives Emotional ‘Hail and Farewell’ to the Fans

Only ET has the exclusive footage of Katherine McNamara and the ‘Shadowhunters’ stars sharing tear-jerking goodbyes to the fans.

Shadowhunters Cast Says Goodbye to Fans | Farewell to Shadowhunters

In our final episode of Farewell to Shadowhunters, the stars of Shadowhunters — Matthew Daddario (Alec), Harry Shum Jr. (Magnus), Katherine McNamara (Clary), Dominic Sherwood (Jace), Alisha Wainwright (Maia), Alberto Rosende (Simon) and Isaiah Mustafa (Luke) — say goodby to the show and thank the Shadowhunters fandom for their support following an emotional series finale.

We’ve had many adventures with the actors from Freeform’s “Shadowhunters” over the years, and now that the show is ending after Season 3, we invite Katherine McNamara, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa, Alisha Wainwright, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, and Harry Shum Jr. to the Young Hollywood Studio to see them off in style — with a game of Loaded Questions mixed with a Beanboozled Challenge! The rules are simple: each actor is provided with a loaded question and a jellybean which could be a yummy flavor or a nasty one. The actor reads the question to themselves and answers it out loud, and they can choose to either reveal the question or take their chances with the jellybean instead! Who among the cast has the stomach for our game?!

Panda Express is celebrating Asian-American Originals like entertainer Harry Shum Jr. Harry talks about identifying with people from different backgrounds, dancing as a way to see past stereotypes, and always looking for the right roles. Explore now: https://www.apahm.pandaexpress.com

How well does the Shadowhunters cast know their show? We put Matthew Daddario (Alec), Harry Shum Jr. (Magnus), Katherine McNamara (Clary), Dominic Sherwood (Jace), Isaiah Mustafa (Luke), Luke Baines (Jonathan), Alisha Wainwright (Maia), Alberto Rosende (Simon) to the test in this game of Who Said It: Shadowhunters Edition.

The final chapter is here, and with it, one last hunt.

The team of harryshumjr.us wishes the wonderful, talented and kind guy named Harry Shum Jr. a happy, happy birthday. We love you and we’ll always support you!

Harry Shum Jr. joins us on Farewell to Shadowhunters to talk about Magnus’ walk down Malec memory lane in Season 3, Episode 19 “ Aku Cinta Kamu.” Would Magnus really have erased all his memories of Alec? And can Asmodeus be trusted or is he manipulating his son? Shum Jr. also reveals which of Magnus’ possessions he took with him when Shadowhunters wrapped!

Jordan tells Maia to use the Heavenly Fire serum, and the Shadowhunters get ready to defend Idris.

Jace goes after Clary, Jordan offers Maia the chance to start over, and Magnus makes a difficult decision.

Asmodeus gives Alec an ultimatum to save Magnus, and Clary struggles with her link to Jonathan.

Shadowhunters season 3 is almost over 😩 (#saveshadowhunters) but before we say goodbye Kat McNamara, Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr. and Emeraude Toubia stopped by to play Superlatives. They told us who’s most likely to end up at Pandemonium club, who could secretly be a Shadowhunter, who would have the Sight to See the Shadow World and who is thinking about getting a rune tattoo IRL. Plus who in the cast thinks Matt Daddario has the prettiest eyes (we totally agree btw 😍).

Alec makes arrangement for his surprise proposal.

(the video will start at the moment the bts video starts ;))

Alec plans to pop the question, while Simon goes undercover.

Alec blames himself for Magnus’ condition.

From dancing with Beyoncé to starring in cult favorite Shadowhunters, there’s just something about Harry.

Nobody could have predicted how Harry Shum Jr. made it to Hollywood. He definitely didn’t take the typical path, and even when he tells it, his story sounds too kismet to be true. Born in Costa Rica to Chinese immigrant parents, the actor moved to San Francisco, then Grover Beach—“a town no one really knows”—when he was nine, and immediately began working at his parents’ Chinese restaurant. Growing up, he was learning English, struggling to make friends, and had trouble finding his footing—until he literally found it through dance. He moved to L.A. and scored a gig as a backup dancer for Beyoncé. Then came Glee and Shadowhunters. Then came Crazy Rich Asians. And here we are.

Fittingly for a dancer, a series of steps is the perfect way to describe his career. “My dad always taught me to take small steps. And I’m okay with that, because I want longevity with this. I don’t want to just be burnt out in the beginning,” Shum explains as we sit down following a full morning of shooting his best moves for ELLE.com.

When the now 36-year-old moved to L.A. on a whim fresh out of high school, he spent the first week dancing eight hours every single day, and immediately landed his first tour with dance DJ Cassy. Choreographer Jamal Sims, who worked on the Step Up movies, saw him in class and asked him to go on the road. “I probably would have done it for free if they didn’t say they were going to pay me,” Shum shrugs.

Then came the call that would change anyone’s life. “I was eating dinner and they were like, ‘We’re interested in you going on tour with Beyoncé.’ I just ran as quick as possible and auditioned in front of Beyoncé to make sure she approved, which she did. It was crazy.” He still remembers the entire choreography to “Naughty Girl” and “Baby Boy.” “They just sit in my brain. The songs you love, they’re just in you forever.”

Get a first look at Malec in the brand new episodes of Shadowhunters season 3B

[…] As for Alec and Magnus, the latter of whom sacrificed his powers to save Jace in the midseason finale, you can also expect plenty of drama in the show’s final run. “It’s heartbreaking, but it’s also beautiful” Slavkin tells TVLine of the journey “Malec” will take in the coming months. “[Magnus] learns how to live in the moment, something he never had to do when he had powers. Season 3B is such a rollercoaster ride for Magnus Bane. We loved his arc in 3A, but for Harry Shum, Jr. as an actor, it’s a hell of a journey. It’s beautiful and profound and it’ll break your heart. You’re in for a ride that’s really intense to watch.” […]

The creative team behind Warner Bros.’ breakout romantic comedy is planning to reunite for the sequel, based on Kevin Kwan’s second book, ‘China Rich Girlfriend.’

    […]

Warner Bros. has not yet officially greenlighted the sequel (it’s standard practice for a studio to take a wait-and-see approach with a new potential franchise) but is moving forward on development. The studio and its CEO and chairman Kevin Tsujihara took a risk by greenlighting a comp-less film starring an all-Asian cast and a very specific story set in Singapore, but with the massive opening weekend results, a strong performance in weeks to come will all but guarantee the sequel is a go. The $30 million production, the first Hollywood studio movie since 1993’s The Joy Luck Club to feature an all-Westernized Asian ensemble, has opened better than any other comedy this year and any rom-com since 2015’s Trainwreck.

Warner Bros. has the option for Kevin Kwan’s entire trilogy, which includes 2015’s China Rich Girlfriend and 2017’s Rich People Problems. “We have a plan with Kevin for the next two films,” says producer Simpson.

Chu smartly teased the possible sequel in the final moments of the first film. Like any classic romantic comedy, Crazy Rich Asians wraps up happily ever after, with the entire ensemble gathered on the rooftop of Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands resort to celebrate the engagement of Nick (Henry Golding) and Rachel (Constance Wu). But unlike most romantic comedies, the Warner Bros. hit actually ends with a mid-credits scene more commonly seen nowadays in Marvel movies, teasing the subject of the next installment.

    SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

The stinger features Nick’s newly single cousin Astrid (Gemma Chan) exchanging meaningful glances at the party with a handsome man (Glee alum Harry Shum Jr.), Charlie Wu, whom fans of Kwan’s novels recognize as Astrid’s first love.

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Charlie dancing with Astrid in the trailer (a few tantalizing seconds that were instantly immortalized in GIFs), but the moment — which took place earlier in the film, at Colin (Chris Pang) and Araminta’s (Sonoya Mizuno) wedding reception — was excised from the film’s final cut, in part to avoid giving the impression that Astrid was leaving her husband, Michael (Pierre Png), for another man.

Instead, Charlie and Astrid’s second chance at romance would take place during a second film, Chu tells THR. “The idea is to tell the story in the next movie,” he says, adding that Shum’s appearance in Crazy Rich Asians was always intended to be a cameo. “I made a promise to Harry, so I’m going to do it.”

In addition to developing Charlie and Astrid’s relationship, China Rich Girlfriend also follows Nick and Rachel to China on her search for her father. But China’s cooperation with such a sequel remains in question, as its government has in recent years strenuously tried to downplay the country’s uber-wealthy class. Crazy Rich Asians has yet to obtain a China release, and a Chinese translation of the 2013 novel was only made available in the country this year.

The last episodes will air in 2019.

After three seasons on Freeform, the drama series Shadowhunters has been cancelled. The show’s final episodes will air in spring 2019.
Shadowhunters’s imminent ending was announced by Deadline, which reported that there is some good news for viewers — the show intends to give viewers closure with its remaining episodes. The final ten episodes of season three will air in Spring 2019, along with two additional episodes that will wrap up the story. The final season has been titled Shadowhunters: The Final Hunt.

In a statement, Freeform addressed the network’s decision, saying, “We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite. However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama.”

Is it time for Magnus and Alec to take the next step in their spellbinding relationship?

In the next all-new episode of Shadowhunters, Alec confesses the he spends “almost every night” at Magnus’ place and he thinks the time is right for the couple to move in together — and only ET has your sneak peek of the swoon-worthy moment!

To make matters even more magical, we called up Shadowhunters star Harry Shum Jr. and the actor is spilling exclusive secrets about Malec’s “special” bond. Plus, read on to discover the behind-the-scenes details that Shum and Matthew Daddario like to add to their scenes in order to deepen Magnus and Alec’s onscreen chemistry.

ET: We can practically already hear the Malec fans’ screams of delight while watching our exclusive sneak peek clip! First off, how are you feeling about where Magnus and Alec are as a couple this season?

Harry Shum Jr.: Well I think they’ve gone through a lot. In the real world, it’s really only been a short period of time — I think about eight weeks or something like that — that they’ve actually been together. So it’s a whirlwind of being swept up and being really into each other, yet having your world in danger as well, so you kind of get closer in that sense. So I think for the next step, since they see each other all the time and instead of going back and forth, why not be in the same place and move in? So I think the fans will really enjoy that and the progression of that.

When you read in the script that Alec comes to Magnus and suggests that they move in together, what was your initial reaction?

I always err on the side of caution whenever that question gets brought up [Laughs] because when you don’t know a lot of things about someone, that can always cause some confusion in the beginning part [of a relationship]. Like, “I thought that you would like this or that,” so I don’t know. I think it’ll be interesting to see it unfold — especially with these characters. I think Magnus, who is set in his particular ways, is very different than Alex, so I think that’s going to be the fun in seeing what happens.

This year, PAAC is collaborating with the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), the brothers of Pi Delta Psi (PDP), the sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda (KPL), the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), the Asian American Center (AAC), and the Latinx Student Cultural Center (LSCC) to bring in Harry Shum Jr!

Harry Shum Jr. is a Costa Rican-born Chinese American actor, dancer, singer and choreographer. He is best known for his roles as Mike Chang on the Fox television series Glee, as Magnus Bane on the television series Shadowhunters, has appeared in the films Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, and the upcoming film Crazy Rich Asians. We can’t wait to hear what Harry has to say about topics such as representation in media, masculinity, privilege, his immigration story, and what it means to be a third culture kid.

We finally got a poster for Shadowhunters Season 3. Check it out below

    “Shadowhunters” Season 3 – Tuesdays through May 29, 2018

    March 20 (8:00 – 9:01 p.m. EDT) – Episode 3001 – “On Infernal Ground”
In the season three premiere, secrets abound as the Shadowhunters and Downworlders try to get back to normal after Valentine’s death.

    March 27 (8:00 – 9:01 p.m. EDT) – Episode 3002 – “The Powers That Be”
The Warlocks’ magic is becoming corrupted by a demonic presence while Izzy and Luke try to track down more information on the recent series of possessions.

    Synopsis

Secrets abound as the Shadowhunters and Downworlders try to get back to normal after Valentine’s death.

In the Cassandra Clare books, Lilith (Hopkins, here with guest star Randal Edwards) is the mother of Warlocks but, Slavkin said, “we have our own twist on it.” He did reveal that Lilith has powers that would make her natural to face off with Magnus. “She uses magic like the Warlocks so those two definitely play together and it’s really great.”

    […]

Jace (Dominic Sherwood), Izzy (Emeraude Toubia) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) talk to Catarina (Sophia Walker), who we’ll see more of this season. “She’s Magnus‘s close friend, and he can share problems with her that he can’t tell anyone else because she’s a Warlock,” Slavkin said. “Even though Alec is his partner and he’s got other friends, Catarina holds a special place in Magnus‘s heart, and vice versa.” And, yes, we will also see more of Madzie in the new season.

But, speaking of Magnus, he has some challenges in the new episodes. “Because he sided with the Seelie Queen,” Slavkin said, “there are political ramifications after the events of the finale that he’s gotta deal with.”

When Shadowhunters returns in 2018, Magnus is going wand-to-wand with a Founding Father.

TVLine has an exclusive first look at the High Warlock’s new rival Lorenzo Rey, played by Javier Muñoz, star of the Broadway musical Hamilton.

Though if we’re being honest, the spellcasters look awfully chummy for a pair of supposed “enemies.” (And let’s be honest, this wouldn’t be the first time someone has attempted to come between Magnus and Alec.)

    Harry Shum Jr.

As a 400-year-old warlock on the show based on a beloved YA series, Shum Jr. has encountered countless devoted fans. But he witnessed the ultimate — and most unlikely — example of fangirling during his time as a backup dancer for Beyoncé.

“I was at Madison Square Garden and we were doing ‘Crazy in Love,’ and I remember these two guys, they were in tank tops and just sat there and didn’t move the whole concert,” he recalls. “The moment you heard JAY-Z, he came up from the ground up, and literally they started screaming and waving their hands and jumping.” Moving into roles on Glee and the upcoming Crazy Rich Asians film adaptation, Shum Jr. says he misses those kinds of immediate responses. “When you make a movie and you do a TV show, you don’t really see the real reactions,” he says. “That was the coolest moment.”

During the first two seasons of the fantasy series, the cast would lighten the mood with on-set pranks. “But we avoid pranks nowadays because the fear of reprisal is so significant,” Daddario says. “Each of us is ready to go nuclear with the counter-prank. It’s like a nuclear stalemate.” The cast’s top offender? Sherwood. “Dom loves to scare Kat [McNamara]. And it’s really funny because she falls for it every single time,” Shum Jr. reveals. “Although Isaiah did get Dom once and literally scared him to death. It was hilarious and we caught it on tape.” Now to unwind, Sherwood says, “We go out on the weekends and spend time with each other, completely unrelated to the show.”

Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Ken Jeong, Harry Shum Jr. and Awkwafina star in the Jon M. Chu comedy.
Crazy Rich Asians is hitting theaters in summer 2018.

Warner Bros. has announced that the comedy, directed by Jon M. Chu, will be released on Aug. 17, 2018. It will open opposite Focus’ sci-fi title Captive State with John Goodman and Vera Farmiga, STXfilms’ puppet comedy The Happytime Murders with Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph, and Aviron’s crime thriller Three Seconds with Rosamund Pike, Joel Kinnaman and Clive Owen.

Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Ken Jeong, Harry Shum Jr., Awkwafina, Jimmy O. Yang and Gemma Chan are part of the all-Asian ensemble cast of the movie. Adapted from Kevin Kwan’s hit novel, it centers on three wealthy Chinese families as they prepare for Singapore’s wedding of the year.

The story follows Rachel Chu (Wu), an American-born Chinese economics professor, who travels to her boyfriend Nick’s (Henry Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. Before long, his secret is out: Nick is from a family that is impossibly wealthy, he’s perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.

Plus, Jace’s dreams turn deadly in season 3 trailer

Jace has been brought back to life — but it looks like the consequences of his return are going to follow him for a while.

The cast and executive producers of Shadowhunters stopped by New York Comic Con for a panel on Saturday afternoon, and they brought a trailer for season 3 with them. The preview for the new season was followed immediately by news that even the cast and executive producers hadn’t heard before: Freeform has picked up the show for 10 additional season 3 episodes, set to air next summer.

During the panel — which brought together showrunners Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavin, executive producer and director Matt Hastings, and cast members Katherine McNamara, Isaiah Mustafa, Alisha Wainwright, and Matthew Daddario — McNamara teased that things are getting serious for Clary and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) in season 3 in the wake of Jace’s return from death. “They have this secret that they cannot tell,” McNamara said.

The cast and executive producers teased plenty of relationship development across the board this season. In Wainwright’s words, the story will explore what it’s like to “go home with these people.”

Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Daddario) are back together this season, but that doesn’t mean they’re in for an easy time. “What is happiness?” Daddario teased when asked how happy Alec is. And while he eventually admitted his character is “pretty happy,” he added that there’s an element of stress behind that happiness. “He’s just getting into the more complex aspects of his relationship with Magnus. I’m concerned for him.”

And what of Luke? Mustafa said of his season 3 prospects: “It’s a heck of a hangover.”

Season 3 of Shadowhunters premieres April 3, 2018, at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.

The past two seasons of Shadowhunters have all started filming in late summer and have premiered in early January, and it looks like Shadowhunters Season 3 will do the same. The pre-production team and writing staff have already been hard at work, and the cast is currently making their way back to Toronto to start shooting.

We will likely get an official date during New York Comic-Con in October if the cast returns to the convention again, but for now it’s safe to say that Shadowhunters Season 3 will premiere in January 2018.

In that army are Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Luc (Isaiah Mustafa). What can you tease about how they play into the finale?
McNamara: Well, we’ve seen the unrest in the Downworld from the beginning of Season 2, and things are finally coming to fruition, but it’s forcing leaders like Luc and Magnus and Alec (Matthew Daddario) to make these difficult choices, where they truly have to choose between their heart and their duty to their people.

That’s when it becomes difficult because you have Luc and Magnus, who are downworlders and who have to think about their people, but also Luc is basically Clary’s dad and Simon’s dad and the person who looks out for all of these young folks. And then you have Magnus who is so in love with Alec and wants to be there to support him but can’t because he also has to support his people. It’s these sort of difficult choices that will shape the future of the Downworld.

    History of the Site:
I (Lucy) have been a fan of Harry since I saw him on Glee for the first time, the first episode of Glee aired in my country on January 2011 so that’s when it all started. Sadly Harry never had as much screentime as I wanted him to have. Before I opened HarryShumJr.us I had a fan site about Glee but after season 6 ended I closed the site. I thought about opening a fan site about Harry for a while and I did have a Tumblr account for a while but at some point I had no time to run the blog so I deleted it again. In March 2016 I created a new Tumblr account (I don’t remember the exact date I opened it, the first post was posted on March 14, 2016) and in September 2016 I finally opened HarryShumJr.us. From time to time my friend Kate is helping with news, photos and more, check out her site chris-colfer.net. Sadly the site isn’t as popular as I was hoping but the gallery got quite a few of views … but I’m not doing it for the attention. I’m here because I love Harry and I want to support him and his career. Don’t forget to check our gallery, there are more than 30,000 photoswaiting for you!

After centuries of being lied to and treated poorly by The Clave, the Downworlders decide to come together and take matters into their own hands as the hunt for Valentine and Sebastian intensifies. But what starts off as a way to preserve their own, the Downworlders choice to break with the Shadowhunters, could quickly escalate to war.

    Episode 2020 – “Beside Still Water” – August 14 (8:00 – 9:01 p.m. EDT)
Jace and Clary rush to make a final stand, but when a traitor is revealed, Jace and Clary may have a bigger fight on their hands than expected. We’d only just gotten an official “I love you” from Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) when our favorite Shadowhunters ship started to have some serious relationship issues.

While Magnus has battled his past trauma, Alec has been dealing with the responsibilities of being head of the Institute — as well as the consequences of those responsibilities. Those are some pretty huge stressors on a romantic relationship, and “Malec” finally reached the breaking point when Magnus found out that Alec lied to him about the Clave losing the Soul-Sword.

The fight we saw — and Magnus’ outburst afterwards — was hard to watch for sure, but according to Matthew Daddario, we might want to watch it again from a new perspective.

“What I saw was people recognizing their feelings are so intense, and they can’t just go by without really expressing those feelings with that intensity,” Daddario told TV Guide. “A lot of growth needs to happen very quickly. They’ve only known each other a short time.”

Harry Shum Jr. played down the squabble as well, saying that some couples fight it out one minute and go back to being sweet and cuddly the next.

Maybe not the most healthy dynamic, but we wouldn’t say no to some Malec sweetness.

We’ve got faith that these two can work it out, and that faith was buoyed by the shot of Malec shirtless in bed together in the promo for next week’s episode, “Awake, Arise, or Be Forever Fallen.”

For a young actor in 2017, the good news is it’s never been easier to get a job. There are now a million options—as long as you’re cool with getting “famous” on go90. Or Crackle. Or Freeform. The list of platforms keeps growing, while the screens keep shrinking. Zach Baron reports on a generation of would-be stars navigating an era of glorious upheaval—when that next phone call might be from Netflix. (But it’s probably from Seeso.)

    […]
    7. When Hollywood Won’t Cast You, Find Someone Else Who Will
Harry Shum Jr. can still remember what it felt like to be on Glee in that uncanny moment when 26 million people tuned in after the Super Bowl. That surreal sense of being at the center of a phenomenon: “Literally all eyes were on us constantly.” He’s perched on a stool in a coffee shop in Hollywood wearing a Henley, a mildly whimsical hat, and a pervasively radiant sense of health.

The height of Glee mania was 2011. That same year, he shot a few short films for some guys who were making clips for YouTube. Wong Fu Productions—three Asian-American guys just playing around with the format. “We shot like three random shorts,” Harry says, “and those did really well, and then we shot another one that got like 10 million hits, and then it was like, “Oh, there’s something here.” And then they sold a show to YouTube Red.” Single by 30, which became an eight-episode romantic comedy set in L.A., came out last year and the first episode has more than 2 million views on YouTube. You might not have heard of the show. But that’s kind of the point of streamers like YouTube Red: They go deep for relatively narrow but passionate audiences, rather than broad, for everyone.

One thing working on the Wong Fu stuff taught Harry, he says, is that the new generation of viewers Hollywood is trying to reach often doesn’t care about Hollywood at all: “These people, they don’t watch TV or movies. They literally just watch whatever is in front of their computers or on their phones.” Even at the height of Glee, he says, “I would walk down the street, and they’d be like, ‘Oh, my God, you’re in Wong Fu shorts!’ That’s all they know me from. And they go nuts over that. Sometimes walking around with a lot of YouTube personalities that I hang out with, fans are going nuts over them and have no clue who Leonardo DiCaprio is.”

Harry sips his Vietnamese iced coffee. These days he’s got a regular role on a show on Freeform called Shadowhunters. He plays a warlock. Last year he did a Crouching Tiger sequel for Netflix. But what he’s most excited about right now is his role in a studio film just now going into production, Crazy Rich Asians. Warner Bros., one of the oldest studios in Hollywood, is making it with an all-Asian cast, which has more or less no precedent. “It’s one of those that wouldn’t have been able to get made a couple years ago,” Harry says.

All these alternative channels and platforms, he’s noticed, have uncovered audiences that producers and studios used to ignore or were never even aware of. Which in turn has been great for actors who might actually look like those audiences. “There’s so many projects now,” Harry says. “Being a minority—all my friends used to struggle so much for the longest time and only get certain roles, and I’m starting to see them get all these different roles and main-character roles on platforms that you might have not heard of—but they’re, like, working with huge names, right? Producers, huge-name directors. I think that’s incredible.”

All the Malec Feels: With Magnus (Harry Shum Jr) finally breaking down and telling Alec (Matthew Daddario) about this horrible memory he’s been dealing with, what’s next for the couple? “Getting to write these emotive, beautiful, sensitive moments where we’re getting character work and we’re understanding characters histories is really the juice for us,” Swimmer said. “Amazing stuff lies ahead with Malec. This is just, kind of, the beginning in terms of the depth that we’re trying to explore. And that’s not to say that there’s not joy ahead. That there’s not smiles and there’s not lots of beautiful, upbeat moments, but in order to get there, we explore the depth, and it’s pretty cool.”

But is the memory of his mother all in the past now? “Magnus’ past is much deeper than just this little tidbit, and it will be a continual [reveal]. He hasn’t come out and had a [moment] where he’s just told Alec everything, [but] it’s happening,” Slavkin said. “He’s parceling it out, and there’s definitely more stuff and things that he wants to keep hidden from Alec. But this particular story is closed-ended, in terms of the mother committing suicide and then his stepfather coming in and burning the stepfather. There’s not more to that particular story.”

Shadowhunters and Stitchers fans have another reason to be excited this summer! Cast members from both shows have revealed via social media that they will be attending San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Based on standard scheduling for other shows attending the convention, we think it’s safe to assume that each series will hold a panel in addition to an autograph session with fans.

This year, San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 19-23, which means that the Stitchers panel will take place in between Episodes 6 and 7 and the Shadowhunters panel will take place between episodes 16 and 17. Comic-Con is also the weekend after the D23 Expo, where some cast members from both shows will also be available for autographs.

Stitchers fans found out from Damon Dayoub during a Facebook live chat last week that the cast would be in attendance, and though some fans had already speculated that Shadowhunters would join them at the convention, it was confirmed by Kat McNamara during a live Instagram chat on July 3 that she would be going to SDCC as well.

So which day will Freeform be hosting panels and autographs? Looking at what’s been released so far about scheduling across the convention center, our money’s on Thursday (but we’ll have to wait for the official conformation to be sure). Even though this is the first time either show will make an appearance at SDCC, both shows have attended New York Comic Con, which takes place in early October.

So far we don’t know if Harry will be going to SDCC!

    UPDATE:

Relationships will be tested, a new Shadowhunter named Sebastian has joined the fray, and the Seelie Queen will step out of the shadows. Moderated by IGN.com’s Matt Fowler, panelists include executive producers Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, and Matt Hastings, with series stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa, and Harry Shum Jr.. Synopsis

Simon goes down a dark path while Alec and team prepares to transport Valentine.

    Synopsis

Alec has big plans to mend fences with the Downworlders, while Jace and Clary are summoned by the Seelie Queen.

    […]

Of course, the real drama of this week’s episode came from Magnus and Valentine’s adventures in body swapping. Though their souls were eventually returned to the correct meat bags, the experience left its mark — so to speak — on Magnus, who relived horrific childhood memories while being tortured with the agony rune.

“He has a rally troubled history, so building upon that is really important,” Harry Shum Jr. tells TVLine of Magnus’ background, which will continue to be explored this season. “It’s not something he wanted to revisit. And it will definitely affect his storyline with Alec, hopefully bringing them closer together and giving them a deeper understanding of one another. Alec is going to become much more sympathetic to life as a Downworlder.”

And if you picked up on a little tension between Alec and Magnus in their final scene together, don’t worry, you’re not totally insane.

“When you revisit a difficult childhood memory or a traumatizing experience, you sometimes end up redirecting your feelings about it,” Shum Jr. explains. “You can’t always say ‘This is what I went through’ and move on. The frustration lies in when other people don’t understand why you’re acting a certain way.”

As for Sebastian — who helped Clary tap into her true power this week, before being turned down for a date with her — don’t expect to see Magnus warming up to him any time soon.

“Magnus doesn’t trust any Shadowhunter,” Shum Jr. reminds us, save for his brooding boyfriend. “So I would say a big fat no right now. That might change over tim. We’ll see.”

[Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead unless you have watched “You Are Not Your Own,” the June 12 episode of Shadowhunters. Major plot points are discussed in the interview below.]

Magnus Bane is not himself in this week’s episode of Shadowhunters. No, he’s really not himself. In fact, he’s Valentine Morgenstern, or at least in the bad guy’s body after an unfortunate run-in with a greater demon in the previous episode.

That’s right: Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) is now trapped in Valentine’s (Alan Van Sprang) body, which means he’s the one currently imprisoned by The Clave in the Institute, not Valentine. While poor Magnus is being tortured in tonight’s gripping episode (“You Are Not Your Own”), Valentine learns that being a “filthy” warlock isn’t so bad, especially when there’s magic involved. But first he has to learn what to do with those hands.

“There’s a certain grace to Magnus, but with Valentine, every movement is calculated,” Shum Jr. told MTV News ahead of the episode. “And there’s a real frustration in Valentine not having full control for the first time.”

“As an actor, you get this challenge to play someone outside of who you’ve been playing for the past two seasons, and it’s a real treat, especially someone like Valentine,” he added. “He’s such a complicated character. It wasn’t really about mimicking him — it was also about what he would act like if he was not trying to let anyone know he was this person in someone else’s body.”

The harrowing experience is going to leave the immortal High Warlock of Brooklyn with lingering trauma, as he’ll be forced to confront painful memories from his past — some not voluntarily. He’ll also be confronted with a choice to “completely turn his back” on The Clave.

“The body-swap alone is very invasive. It’s a violation of someone’s body,” Shum Jr. said. “It’s interesting and fun to watch, but when you think about it, if someone went into your body and you don’t know what they did during that time, it can cause lasting damage to someone. It can also bring out things from the past, things that they’ve suppressed for a long time for good reasons.”

Obviously, this means Magnus will lean on Alec (Matthew Daddario) for support, but with Shadowhunters dropping like flies, and a group of Downworlders who want justice following Valentine’s massacre at the Institute, Alec is not be as emotionally available as Magnus needs right now. But the long-awaited arrival of Sebastian Verlac (Will Tudor), a Shadowhunter from the London Institute, might just put everyone on edge.

“Magnus is just starting to trust Shadowhunters, but he still doesn’t really trust any of them,” he said. “So bringing someone new, especially from London, given his past, he’s very cautious. The question is whether he wants to even get involved. His loyalty ultimately lies with his people and the Downworlders.”

At the torture he endures at the hand of The Clave in this episode, we really can’t blame him.

    Source: mtv.com

Thanks to a greater demon named Azazel, Valentine has escaped the Institute and is walking around inside the body of Magnus Bane on “Shadowhunters.”

Harry Shum Jr. didn’t have a long lead time before jumping into the new role of Valentine-inside-Magnus, but he enjoyed taking on the twist.

“I think I knew about it in the first episode, when we started shooting,” Harry told AccessHollywood.com. “So, maybe like two weeks before or a week-and-a-half before we started the second [episode].

“It was fun to kind like of sink our teeth into it and it was great that we got to sit down and really like talk about it — kind of what direction we wanted to go,” he added.

Harry said he met with Alan Van Sprang, who plays Valentine, and the episode’s director, Bille Woodruff, before shooting the new episode.

“We sat down for lunch and just kind of discussed how we wanted to play it because when you hear that, you’re like, ‘Oh, OK, you just switch bodies,’ but [there are] these more intricate and really kind of interesting layers on top of it and both of us are playing it very different because our motivation is completely different,” Harry told Access. “Valentine-in-Magnus’ body is trying to figure out how Magnus acts and functions and also, convincing people that he is Magnus while Magnus-in-Valentine’s body is trying to convince [people] that he’s Magnus. So, it’s this weird kind of double take where we didn’t want to play into kind of the idea of like, ‘I’m just doing an impersonation of you.’ It’s all these little things that we had to kind of sprinkle on to that and it was really important to us to really have that play into the episode.”

Harry watched tapes of Alan as he prepared to do his portrayal of Valentine-in-Magnus.

“I think [with] Valentine, there’s little points where you’ve seen him kind of get really frustrated, but he has this calmness, where he’s very calculating. He knows what he’s going to do next. He’s always two steps ahead and I wanted to give a little bit of that,” Harry said.

“But also, this is something that he’s never dealt with. This is beyond frustration. This is like, I’m trapped in the body of something I like, hate, and I’m trying to destroy. How do I react to this?” Harry said of how Valentine, a shadowhunter, feels being in the body of a warlock. “So that is what I wanted to really pull from … with Alan and getting those tapes, and at the end of the day, putting my interpretation on top of that.”

Harry Shum Jr. talks with Hypable about Valentine’s stint as Magnus Bane in Shadowhunters season 2, episode 12.

How do you play a man trapped in body he absolutely despises?

Shadowhunters offers viewers a chance to see Valentine inside of Magnus Bane’s body. “Filthy” is a term Valentine has often used when referring to any Downworlder. Now that he is stuck performing Azazel’s bidding as a warlock, Valentine must find a way to navigate the relationships this particular warlock spent centuries developing.

That includes his most recent one with Alec. While the roles certainly call for a bit of miming, the process of letting another character play in the sandbox you constructed, is no easy task.

Harry Shum Jr. talks to Hypable about Valentine’s stroll in Magnus’ body, what lies ahead for Magnus and Alec, and a piece of fan art that he wants to see play out!

Valentine and Magnus have limited screen time together. What was the preparation process like for the role reversal?

Harry Shum Jr.: We had access to each other, but we didn’t want to do that. Tapes were what were provided for us to be able to look at how they talk to people. But it wasn’t about spending time with each other and trying to mimic each other.

It was about making sure that we captured the essence of each other’s characters. From there, within the scenes that we had to play with, we wanted to deliver them in a way where it was very situational. It was very specific. It wasn’t, “Well, I’m going to play Valentine and then I’m going to put that on top of all the scenes.” It was specific.

For instance, Magnus in Valentine’s body talking the Azazel is very different than how he is going to attempt to talk to Alec or talk to other characters who are going to come in. Also, he’s observing how the characters are reacting. It’s Valentine in Magnus’ body, trying to figure out Magnus – who he actually is – to convince [the people he is interacting with] enough to move on to the next level.

He doesn’t really know Magnus that well, either. As you layer that on top a bit, there is a little bit of humor about it. But as an audience member I hope that they’re watching and they know that it’s him, but also anticipate what is he going to do next.

One of the best moments, for me personally, was watching when Jace comes to Magnus’ apartment and you have that recognition – it felt so much like Valentine seeing Jace coming to him. It was truly fantastic.

    Oh, that’s great to hear.

Magnus has just been horrifically tortured. Give us a sense of where Magnus is at the end of this episode.

What that [torture] does to someone’s psyche — especially coming from someone like Magnus who as dealt with instability in a mental capacity — it’s a mixture of emotions. And [in the past] he’s dealt with issues of questioning whether to even stay on this planet. I think for him it brings up a lot of this history and trauma that he’s been trying to stay away from.

Then there’s the trauma of being tortured. That alone is something that is already hard to get over. But the fact that it’s bringing up something that has affected him in this mental state is something that is going to take a while to get over. And it will really affect his relationships with people — especially Alec.

The stories from Magnus’ past are endless. So much so, Cassandra Clare enlisted other writers to craft some of them in the The Bane Chronicles. If you could explore any part of Magnus’ past, whether you created it, or you’re pulling it out of the books — what would it be?

I just saw something that was really interesting. It was a piece of fan art that came out that – first of all some of these [fans] are incredible, incredible artists. The things they conjure up whether it’s from their minds or the books or from the show, wow – B there was one thing that would be so fun. It was a picture of him in the 80s with Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson.

It’s his days exploring how he got into high society, how he was friends with these celebrities and influential people. That’s a fun part to explore outside of the world ending and defeating the evil doers — The fun he had. He had an interesting life and outlook, and he had to hide that he was a warlock. He’s an eccentric and unique being that fits in with all these artists that are eccentric themselves. I think that’s a really fun thing to explore and to navigate through that would be a really, really fun thing.

I can’t talk to anyone from the Shadowhunters cast without talking about the fans – what is the feeling of carrying this relationship of Alec and Magnus through to these fans. Especially, as the love for them grows.

The responsibility that I feel and making sure it’s as truthful as possible. We always want to make sure that we’re not falling into cushions. We want to service them as strong characters who are figuring things out. Whether it’s a first time — not even just the first time of having a relationship, not just for Alec — but being with someone who is the polar opposite. Also, [they exist] in a complicated world on both sides. That’s to me the unique part.

But then treating them also like any normal relationship and figuring out how they are going to get through this together. How they are going to deal with certain things that arise that they disagree with? And hopefully they’ll overcome that. That to me is what we always strive for with what the writers come up with. I feel like that’s our job. And the writers have been bringing some really interesting situations for the two characters to play out and that’s great.

Harry Shum Jr. reveals how he prepared to play Valentine on ‘Shadowhunters’ and asks fans to take a deeper look at the mental health storyline in Season 2, Episode 12, “You Are Not Your Own.”

On this week’s episode of Freeform’s Shadowhunters, “You Are Not Your Own,” actor Harry Shum Jr., who (almost always) portrays the role of Magnus Bane, took on the unique challenge of playing Valentine Morganstern. The catch? Shum had to play a vulnerable, complex version of Valentine we’ve never seen before, and he also had to act against Alan Van Sprang as he played Shum’s character, Magnus Bane. So, Harry Shum Jr. was playing Valentine, who was pretending to be Magnus, talking to the real Magnus, who was now trapped in Valentine’s body. Are you still with us?

We caught up with Harry Shum Jr. to ask about taking on the role of Valentine and to learn more about what it was like to film scenes where he had to exchange dialogue with his own character in someone else’s body. Shum also spoke on the deeper meaning woven into the themes of the episode and what he hopes Shadowhunters fans will take away from the story in Season 2, Episode 12.

What first went through your mind when you found out Shadowhunters was going to do a body-switch with Magnus and Valentine?

Harry Shum Jr.: I would say that I was a little afraid that I wouldn’t pull it off because he’s such a complicated character, but at the same time, I was up for the challenge. How often do you get offered to play someone else on the show that you’re working on?

How did you prepare to play someone who is such a contrast to Magnus?

Shum: Over the seasons, we got to know what Valentine’s intentions were, or his goals, or his motivations, and kind of his way of manipulating people into doing what he wants. So that was kind of laid out already throughout the season. For me now, it’s the characteristics and little movements. His body posture, the way he smiles, the way he looks at you, and all of those little things that I had to study and watch on some of his tapes, and even the way he would approach talking to someone he’s trying to manipulate.

I didn’t really want to do an impersonation. I really wanted to draw those things that he’s been put in the situation he’s never been in before. Being in a warlock body, which is his worst nightmare, and being able to try and really pull it off, where he’s trying to get out of that body, but also trying to convince people that he is this warlock that he doesn’t really know too much about. So it’s that top layer of being Valentine, but also trying not to be Valentine.

Did you and Alan spend time together to teach each other any mannerisms or characteristics?

Shum: We didn’t. We kind of had one conversation about it with the director. We sat down over coffee and discussed mainly the things that we wanted to avoid, the typical things that you get when there’s body-switching happening. We really wanted to avoid those tropes of this trap of pretending to be each other, or being each other as an impersonation.

So that was really the biggest part, and I trusted him and he trusted me to really take care of these characters that we’ve nurtured over the years, and bring something of ours on top of it, which was really fun when we got to see it live at first and see each other do it. I would say the first couple times, I would laugh because he would do such a great job, and he would blow me away by his physicality and the way he would deliver a line. It would make me laugh because it was so good.

What was the most difficult part of portraying Valentine?

Shum: It’s keeping it up, because it’s not just maintaining a voice pattern of “This is the way Valentine talks.” You’re adding this layer of maybe, “This is the way Valentine talks when he’s talking to someone he knows like Azazel,” but to everyone else, he doesn’t. And what’s fun is that every time he’s in a scene, he doesn’t know how Magnus fully functions.

He’s gauging the other person’s reaction like “Oh, do they believe me? Are they believing me? Oh, I have to switch this up. Maybe my tone has to go a little softer. I’m being a little too harsh in the way I act.” So I think constantly, every second, he’s trying to figure out how to play this character, this guy that he hates, but also he has to convince people that he’s him.

We’ve seen the photo of you with Alan together in the Institute prison staring through the glass at one another. What was it like to act in scenes against someone else as Magnus?

Shum: It was great. Honestly? It just flowed, and I think that’s what I really enjoyed the most. Seeing him in such a vulnerable state, it hurt to watch. You’re seeing the emotions come up, but the image of yourself in this, and it really flips your head around, but with Alan, he’s just such an incredible actor. His range is so far and wide, and I can’t say enough nice things about what he’s able to do with the character. I was really impressed by his interpretation of Magnus.

How are we going to see the trauma from Magnus’ time in prison affect him, as well as affect his relationship with Alec in future episodes?

Shum: First, it really reiterates his feelings toward the Clave and how torture is even something that is still done. And second, that torture does have a lasting effect of resurfacing these memories and feelings that Magnus has been trying to put away for hundred of years, and is just recently, I would say, slowly getting over.

He just got over something else that was an effect of what he’s experiencing right now, so it will definitely affect him, his outlook on life, and also his relationships with everyone, including Alec. So he will definitely have to fight to get back to the state that he was in before that.

How do you think fans are going to react to the episode?

Shum: I don’t know, but I would hope that they are open to it because I think it does help the story move forward, and not just to move the story forward, but it brings up interesting things about someone’s mental health when someone’s body is being invaded. It’s so invasive, the swapping of the bodies. I think in some ways it can be interpreted differently, but I think the trauma that happens out of that… You have to have help, and you have to find help, and you also have to talk about it.

So I hope that fans look at this outside of — obviously it’s in a fantasy world, where things are possible in that world — but I think it also speaks upon people’s relationships with how they deal with this after it happens. I hope that the fans are really looking at it deeper than just kind of a “swapping bodies,” because that’s the fun part of watching the episode, but I think it goes a lot deeper than that.

Hopefully this never happens again, but if another Greater Demon comes along on Shadowhunters in the future and Magnus were to body switch with someone else, which other character would you want it to be with?

Shum: [Laughs] Ummm, wow. You know what would be really really fun? I think Luke. I think the fact that no one in the Downworld, or really in the Shadow World, gets to turn into something else, you know? And I think having that feeling of your bones cracking and turning into a werewolf… I don’t know if it’s enjoyable, but I think that would be kind of a cool experience. So I think for fun, it would be kind of fun to switch into a werewolf.

Harry Shum Jr. was never considered for the role of Valentine on Shadowhunters, but Monday’s episode (Freeform, 8/7c) does make for a pretty solid audition tape.

Following last week‘s 11th-hour switcheroo, Magnus and Valentine are now inhabiting each other’s bodies, creating a multi-layer challenge for the characters — as well as the actors.

“He’s a hard one to crack,” Shum tells TVLine of Valentine’s portrayer Alan Van Sprang. “He has a lot of nuances, all these little movements and smiles. I just tried to capture that without being too blatant or hokey about it, since [Valentine] is trying to hide those characteristics, trying to fool people as much as he can.”

Of course, there’s one thing Azazel didn’t consider when putting Valentine in Magnus’ body: “Valentine doesn’t really know Magnus that well, other than him being a ‘filthy warlock,’ as he says,” explains Shum. “He knows he’s a little flamboyant, but he doesn’t know much about his personal life,” including that Alec is his boyfriend. As Shum points out, it’s much harder to fool “someone he’s been intimate with.”

Despite being kept apart for most of the hour — “Valentine” remains in Shadowhunter custody, while “Magnus” roams freely about the city — the two do share a scene together, which Shum calls “really fun” for a number of reasons.

“I’ve never really gotten to act with [Van Sprang] before, so to do it this way for the first time — playing each other — made it even more interesting,” Shum says. “He’s such a great actor, and it was so cool to see what he did with it, seeing how he lifted those little hand movements and other things I’ve contributed to the character.”

And although it’ll probably end up on the cutting room floor, Shum is really hoping that his ad-libbed line at least makes it to the Season 2 blooper reel: “We looked at each other in this very serious moment, and I told him, ‘Magnus, you’ve never looked better.’”

If there’s one person’s head we would never want to get inside of, it’s probably Valentine Morgenstern (Alan Van Sprang), but that’s exactly what Harry Shum Jr. had to do for this week’s episode of Shadowhunters.

Thanks to an unfortunate run-in with a higher demon, Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) has found himself trapped in Valentine’s body, and thus imprisoned in the Institute, while Valentine takes his warlock body for a joy ride. TVGuide.com spoke to Shum Jr. about what it was like to play such a twisted character as well as the old memories that this torturous situation (seriously — torturous) will bring to the surface for Magnus.

How did you even start getting into the headspace to play Valentine playing Magnus?
Harry Shum Jr.: Luckily, we’ve had a season and a half to really, for me, find out who Valentine really is and what his motivation really is and to see him interact with different characters. I think tapes are the first thing you can kind of look at. After putting that layer on, it’s really figuring out what situation he’s being put in, in this particular episode.

Outside of getting the mannerisms and kind of becoming him and how he’s very manipulative… He is trying to figure out how Magnus actually acts. He’s this thing [Valentine] actually hates and despises, but also he has to somewhat find his essence as well trying to throw people off, so he can move on to his next agenda, which is to get out of it.

To be real though, Magnus got the worse end of that stick, didn’t he?
Shum Jr.: For sure. We can talk about Valentine – his worst nightmare is being in a warlock’s body, but I think Magnus’ worst nightmare is being locked up in a prison and nobody believes – especially the love of his life – believes that he is him. I think it’s his worst nightmare. And with that, what they do to him, that puts an extra layer on top of his worst nightmare, which definitely affects him over time.

Outside of the torture and people not believing him and bringing up old, traumatic memories, someone is going to be so fragile after that. Sometimes having a traumatic experience like that, almost no one can help. The only friend that you have is time, and the thing that you can get it giving you time and space or the understanding that this is going to be a long process to get back to his old self. That’s the sad part of it all. Magnus isn’t even thinking about revenge at that point, he’s just trying to get himself level-headed and back into a mental state that’s somewhat healthy.

Will we get to see more of Magnus’ past this season?
Shum Jr.: Yeah, I think the writers are really trying to explore that. That is their goal because why wouldn’t you? You have this character that is so rich in history, and a lot of his past is something that will affect the future. When you bring that up, he has to navigate it in a different way. For the writers, I think that’s really fun as well as for me as an actor. I hope that the audiences really enjoy that ride as well because he is a character that has gone through a lot, and for people to see how he approaches it and how he handles it, I think is going to be a very interesting ride.

Do you think Magnus will pull away from the Institute (and Alec) after going through this ordeal?
Shum Jr.: What I’ve always known of Magnus is that he’s very strong. He’s a strong character. I don’t think anything or anybody can hold him down. It can stop him for the time being, temporarily.

Obviously he wants to lean on Alec (Matthew Daddario), but also Alec has a lot on his plate outside of trying to help Magnus. He still has to be able to deal with getting Valentine and getting the Mortal Cup and all that, especially dealing with his family as well. So there’s a lot for him to deal with outside of just Magnus. Magnus is a big part of his world, but he’s not the only thing that kind of keeps him going because he still has his whole other life that he has to pay attention to. It’s going to be a difficult situation, and I hope they make it out of it, but they won’t be unscathed unfortunately.

If you could chose two other characters to get the body swap treatment who would they be? Which actors would you want to see do what you and Alan Van Sprang got to do?
Shum Jr.: I honestly think, to play around, the two Parabatais [Jace and Alec] would be hilarious. They, themselves, would be so fun to watch. They’ve been put in situations where they have to go against each other even though they know that they love each other and they’re brothers in that sense… I think them switching bodies would be really interesting to watch. And I’m sure [Dominic Sherwood] and [Matthew Daddario] would pull some pranks along the way as well.

Can you tease anything about Sarah Hyland’s guest star role this season?
Shum Jr.: She will be the new Magnus. She will be taking over my duties as Magnus, and I will just be on the sidelines telling her exactly what to do — no I’m just kidding. I can’t really tell you what it is, but Sarah is an awesome actress, and it’s so good to have her energy on our show. I think people will be impressed with what she’s going to bring to the table.

Shadowhunters has finally returned for the second half of its second season, and there’s twice as much angel-blood, greater demons and Downworld drama as ever. We’ve also got some mysteries to solve like how Jace (Dominic Sherwood) can activate runes without a stele, and just who has that Angel Sword.

Putting those mysteries aside though, we all know the most exciting question we want answered: “What’s next for Malec now that they’ve said those three little words to each other?”

Matthew Daddario and Harry Shum Jr. have teased a deeper look at the Malec relationship in 2B into who they are, what they like, and whether that affects their love for one another. With a past as long as Magnus’, there’s definitely a lot of opportunities to find skeletons in the closet, that’s for sure.

“We get to explore a number of different things that happen when relationships become sort of solidified,” Daddario says. “Of course there’s going to be a little bit of drama, but is it good drama or bad drama?”

Before they sort through any of that drama, however, they should probably make sure Magnus is actually Magnus. Something tells us this relationship won’t run very smoothly with Azazel at the wheel in Magnus’ mind.

    Harry Shum Jr. (Charlie Wu)
Harry Shum Jr. was a Glee breakout, playing the (admittedly cool) dancer Mike Chang. After the show’s end, he appeared in 2016’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and stars on Freeform’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments. Shum will reportedly play a tech billionaire named Charlie Wu. Well before CRA’s plot unfolds, the ultra-glamorous Astrid was engaged to Wu. Charlie had wealth, but he’s wasn’t bred from an old-money legacy like Astrid’s parents would’ve preferred. The engagement dissolved, and Astrid moved on with her current husband, Michael. Does Charlie still harbor secret feelings for Astrid? With Astrid’s suspicions about her husband’s infidelity, maybe it’s high time they met again, Before Sunset style.

Glee star Harry Shum Jr. has joined the cast of Crazy Rich Asians, Warner Bros.’ adaptation of the Kevin Kwan best-seller.

Fresh Off the Boat star Constance Wu, Gemma Chan (Humans), Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) are toplining the ensemble romantic comedy, which is currently in production. Jon M. Chu is in the director’s chair.

The plot centers on an America-born Chinese economics professor, played by Wu, who travels to her history professor boyfriend’s (Henry Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. The woman soon finds out is that her boyfriend comes from an incredibly wealthy family and is the most eligible bachelor in Asia, meaning every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social circle now wants to bring her down.

Sources say Shum will play Chan’s ex-boyfriend.

Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, as well as Ivanhoe president John Penotti, are producing the movie, which is in production in Singapore and Malaysia.

Shum is best known for playing the football player with the fleet feet for six seasons on Glee. He appeared in 2016’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny and stars on Freeform’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments.

Harry Shum Jr. explains how Malec will continue to develop in Season 2B of ‘Shadowhunters’ and teases a Magnus that we’ve “never seen before.”

Harry Shum Jr., who plays Magnus Bane, the High Warlock of Brooklyn on Freeform’s hit fantasy series Shadowhunters, sat down with us on set to talk about Magnus’ role in Season 2B and to tease what’s in store for the Malec relationship this summer (oh, and we obviously also talked about magical dancing…).

As a leader in the Downworld with personal ties to Shadowhunters, Magnus is likely to be caught in the middle of political tension from the beginning. “He’s in between it all,” Shum said. “He’s conflicted; he wants to have peace with the Downworlders and Shadowhunters, but obviously there isn’t because the Clave, they have old rules and they haven’t really developed or modernized to fit into what they’re dealing with right now.”

Shum went on to explain that his character is in a particularly difficult position because of his developed relationships with both Shadowhunters and Downworlders. “Specifically with Magnus it’s like, what does he do? His boyfriend is a Shadowhunter and obviously he understands what he needs to do to protect his people, but at the same time, these decisions like Raphael coming in and saying, ‘No, I want to kill the person who’s able to activate it,’ right?’” he said. Because of these relationships, we can also expect Magnus to be faced with “even harder choices” in Season 2B.

We’ve seen Magnus in a mentorship role for several Downworlders (particularly vampires) in past seasons, and we learned that this is something we can expect to see in 2B as well. “Yeah, I mean, how can you not with that much experience?” he said. Shum then commented on what he’d like to see for his character in the future. “I want to see someone mentor Magnus,” he said. “That’s what I would like to see because I think he knows a lot, and he’s wise, and in some ways he can be a little jaded in the sense that he’s just seen it all before. War is inevitable; war is something that just happens that he’s seen over the centuries. So I think the Soul-Sword wiping out Downworlders is something he’s heard of, but I think the fact that it’s happening to people that he’s so close to on the other side, because before it was just all Downworlders, and now that he’s caring for Shadowhunters, it’s been difficult for him.”

Showrunners teased earlier this year that Magnus would have a dancing scene, and since then we’ve learned that it was choreographed by Harry Shum Jr. as well. We don’t know too many details about how the scene will play out, but Shum was able to tell us just a bit more about what we’ll see in the dance. “We made sure Magnus is dancing like Magnus,” he said. “I tried to bring Magnus’ dancing flare into the sequence. So that was really fun, and what I can say is, there’s gonna be fun magic; it’s a magical dance, so there’s going to be magic involved with the dancing and that’s gonna be exciting. That’s all I can say.”

At the end of the winter finale, Alec and Magnus had an emotional, heartfelt reunion where they professed their love aloud for one another, and we asked Shum if this meant we can expect their relationship to grow stronger in 2B. “I think so. I think with Magnus and Alec, I think that what we all wanted to see was them sharing experiences together, and those experiences are what’s going to make them stronger,” he said. “Whether it be intimate moments, or whether it be them solving something together, or even fighting for their lives together. I think those are moments that we take each step of getting to know each other outside of just sharing kind of like past stories, you know?”

Similarly to what we learned from Matthew Daddario, Harry Shum Jr. also commented on how the Malec relationship will continue to be realistic. “We’re going to see a lot more of that and them getting to do more activities together that would cause some riff in one side or the other being kind of pissed off at each other, but there [are] going to be some great, delightful moments as well,” he shared. “I know the fans don’t want them to have any hurtful moments at all, but the reality is, that’s life. So yeah, they’re going to have to get through that.”

When we first see Magnus Bane in Season 2B, he’s going to jump into the action to try and help the Shadowhunters with Valentine, but he also teased that Magnus’ story will have a big twist. “Valentine does something with Magnus that just infuriates him, and that point, has a bigger reason to destroy Valentine,” he said. “So something crazy crazy happens, and that’s all I’ll say about that.”

Crazy crazy? We don’t know if we can handle crazy crazy!

Shum also revealed that he’s most excited to see Episode 12 on-screen this year, but for a very mysterious reason. “That whole episode, it was really fun for me,” he said. “I can’t say anything about it, but it was so much fun to shoot. It’s a Magnus that you’ve never seen before. I won’t even say a side, but it’s just a Magnus you’ve never seen before.”

    Harry Shum Jr.
From charming Glee crooner to bisexual demon slayer

“Yup, he’s a bisexual warlock,” says Harry Shum Jr. of his 400-year old character on the Freeform fantasy series Shadowhunters. “When you live that long, you have some stories.”
Ever since Anne Rice poured a sarcophagus’s worth of same-sex longing into her vampire novels, fans of the genre have jonesed for homoerotic actions among creatures of the night. Shadowhunters has plenty of it. Shum plays Magnuns, the immortal leaderof a supernatural coven in modern-day New York City who pursues both demons and his mortal boyfriend, Alec (Matthew Daddario). Magnus’s darkness was a big draw for the Glee vet, who was also eager to dive into a subculture – not bloodsuckers, but bi guys. He links it to his own heritage. “Bisexuality isn’t really talked about in the mainstream,” he says. “It’s like me being an Asian Latino American – there aren’t many of us.”
The 35-year old actor’s main goal is to portray a queer relationship in a way that’s never been seen on TV. Of course, the idea that Magnus’s love will literally never die helps, but for him it’s more than that. “I look at it the same way as Asian stereotypes on TV,” Shum says. “Why would I want to play that? I want to find uniqueness and capture it every time Magnus and Alec have intimate scenes.” Here’s hoping for many of those scenes when the show returns in June.

    2012 Sessions > Set #007 [+ 45]

You’ve met Harry and you want to share your photos/videos with us? You found an article about Harry in a magazine? You found something online that’s worth sharing? You want to start a project for Harry (like a fan book for his birthday or something you’d like to give him during a convention)?

Please feel free to share it with us, just send us an E-Mail.

    Is this Harry’s official website?
No, this is a fan site dedicated to him and his work. This is a website run by fans for fans.

    Do you know Harry?
No, we do not know Harry.

    Have you ever met Harry?
Sadly no but I hope I’ll get the chance one day!

    Do you have Harry’s e-mail/aim screen name/home address/etc?
No, I don’t have anything to get in touch with him! You can try tweeting him though, he might answer your tweet.

Does Harry have a facebook/twitter/instagram/snapchat or any other personal blogs?
    Harry has Twitter ( @harryshumjr), Instagram ( @harryshumjr), Facebook ( @harryshumjr),
    Tumblr ( @shumbodynamedharry and snapchat ( @harryshumjr) accounts.

Has Harry ever visited this site?
I really don’t know. He might have, he might not have. His management might have or might not have. I hope though that someday he’ll come to the site, and hopefully like and appreciate the support.

Why do you add tags/watermarks to the photos you upload to your gallery?
Simple. We both (Lucy & Kate) had fan sites before and we uploaded photos without watermarks on them but other sites took the photos claiming they got them exclusive and they added their own watermark. Since then we add watermarks. Sorry if it bothers you! (All photos are copyright to their respective owners. If you would like something removed please contact us.)

We’re less than a month away from Shadowhunters‘ second season premiere (Jan. 2, 8/7c), and in honor of the Freeform drama’s long-awaited return, we’re looking back — and ahead — at the show’s two most intense pairings.

I’m talking, of course, about “Malec” — that’d be warlock Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Shadowhunter Alec (Matthew Daddario) — and “Clace,” the somewhat controversial pairing of Shadowhunters Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood.)

Sure, the couples have a few obstacles ahead of them, like how Clary and Jace recently found out they miiiiight be siblings, but what relationship doesn’t come with a little drama?

    Source: eonline.com

The Coalition Of Asian Pacifics In Entertainment (CAPE) — which is the largest and oldest Asian American entertainment organization in the world — is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary with the help of several high-profile digital stars. This is an especially pertinent community, according to the organization, given that 15% of the most-subscribed channels on YouTube are helmed by Asian creators.

The 25th Anniversary Gala, which will take place on Oct. 22 at The Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, serves to celebrate and support CAPE — which champions diversity in the entertainment industry by educating, connecting, and empowering Asian American and Pacific Islander artists.

Digital luminaries slated to attend this year include vlogger and actress Anna Akana; The Lizzie Bennet Diaries executive producer Bernie Su; Cassey Ho (aka Blogilates); YouTube musicians David Choi and Megan Lee; dance creator Dominic ‘D-Trix’ Sandoval; Eugene Yang, who is one of BuzzFeed’s Try Guys; and Freddie Wong of RocketJump. Harry Shum Jr., the star of YouTube Red’s Single By 30, will also be in attendance, as will Twitch founders Kevin Lin and Justin Kan, and Phil Wang and Wes Chan of Wong Fu Productions.

“In a time when diversity and inclusion are finally more than buzzwords, and as the entertainment industry scrambles for more inclusive leaders and stories, CAPE looks forward to cultivating the rich talent pool within our community and to becoming an effective resource of AAPI talent for the industry,” said CAPE’s executive director Michelle Sugihara in a statement.

Glee star Harry Shum Jr. & Phil Wang talk about their Wong Fu Productions series “Single By 30” with Roz Weston

At her ex’s wedding, Joanna has an epiphany about Peter, while he takes full advantage of his status as “the single guy at a wedding.”

Yesterday Harry attended the ‘Katie Says Goodbye’ TIFF Party and we’ve got a hq photos for you. Check out below:

    Events in 2016 > 09-11 – ‘Katie Says Goodbye’ TIFF Party [+ 1]

An age-old pact between young friends on the cusp of adulthood – of the “If we’re both single by the time we turn 30, let’s get married to each other” variety – turns all too real for two millennials in “Single By 30,” an eight-episode rom-com by Wong Fu Productions.

Harry Shum Jr. plays Peter, the leading man, as he navigates the Los Angeles dating scene and as he rekindles his friendship with Kina Grannis’ Joanna, who as the series begins is back in town and in the midst of her own quarter-life crisis. The pair lead a cast of YouTube stars that includes Eric Ochoa and Anna Akana, fitting choices given the show’s home on YouTube Red, and its status as one of the video giant’s first experiments in original content creation on par with Netflix, Amazon or Hulu.

“It’s been great to hear how people are really relating to this story, or even talking about how they’ve also made pacts themselves in high school and are reliving it through the series,” Shum, who is currently filming for another series, “Shadowhunters,” in Toronto, said. As it turns out, the actor sees a lot of himself in Peter, in both background and in life perspective.

“[Like Peter] I also had that idea of, you have to be married at a certain age and the pressures of finding a girlfriend and thinking about when you’re going to have babies for your parents,” Shum said. “What I really relate to Peter is, he has this idea that he needs to get over, of what his life should be as opposed to what his life could be. That was a revelation for me when I realized that I live for myself in my own life.”

Harry Shum Jr. (born April 28, 1982) is a Costa Rican-American actor, dancer, singer, and choreographer. He is best known for his roles as Mike Chang on the Fox comedy-drama television series Glee and as Magnus Bane on the Freeform fantasy television series Shadowhunters.

He has appeared in the films Step Up 2: The Streets (2008), Step Up 3D (2010), White Frog (2012), Revenge of the Green Dragons (2014), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), the Hulu web series The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers (2010–2011) and the YouTube Red series “Single By 30” (2016).

    Early Life
Shum was born in Limón, Costa Rica. His mother is a native of Hong Kong, and his father is from Guangzhou, China. They relocated to Costa Rica, where Shum and his two older sisters were born. When Shum was six years old, the family moved to San Francisco, California. He stated: “I feel I have the best of so many worlds. I speak Cantonese and Spanish. Spanish is actually my first language before I learned Cantonese and English.” In an interview, he said that his earliest motivations to dance were from watching Ginuwine, Dru Hill, and Usher, before becoming influenced by iconic dancers like Gene Kelly and Michael Jackson.

Shum has stated that he identifies as being somewhat Latino. The actor was quoted saying: “It’s strange that I am full Chinese and born in a Latin country, but I love the fact that I was immersed in that culture at birth while maintaining my Chinese roots,” and added: “I think the cultures share a lot of similarities as far as family values and the love for flavor in their foods. I do consider myself somewhat Latin.”

    Career
Shum launched his career as the only male dancer on BET’s Comic View in 2002, and has continued his dancing career from there. He was also one of the lead dancers for stars such as Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Simpson. He won a dance competition to dance in an iPod commercial.

From 2009 until 2015, he portrayed the role of Mike Chang, a dancer who joins the glee club, on the Fox musical comedy-drama series Glee. Known for a while as “Other Asian” on Glee, with very few lines during the show’s first season, Shum’s character was given storylines in the second season, mostly involving his relationship with fellow glee club member Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz). He subsequently gave performances of “Make ‘Em Laugh” in “The Substitute”, “Sing” from A Chorus Line in “Duets”, “Valerie” in “Special Education”, and the show’s first dance solo in “A Night of Neglect”. He was promoted from guest star to series regular for the third season. He was given a major storyline in the third episode of the season, “Asian F”, and performed “Cool” from West Side Story, his first solo song. On June 28, 2013, it was reported that Shum would not return as regular on Glee’s fifth season, but would be a recurring guest star.

Shum has been featured in many productions done by Wong Fu Productions. In 2010, he appeared in Step Up 3-D as Cable. He is also a dancer and choreographer for the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. In 2011, Shum completed a short action film, 3 Minutes, directed Ross Ching and produced by Don Le and George Wang.

Shum was cast in the role of the Kuai Liang (the younger Sub-Zero) in the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. In 2014, he had a major role in crime drama film Revenge of the Green Dragons, which was executive produced by Martin Scorsese. Shum was cast as the warlock Magnus Bane in the Freeform fantasy series Shadowhunters, based on The Mortal Instruments series of novels by Cassandra Clare. In 2016, he appeared as the character Wei-Fang in the sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, titled Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny.

    Personal Life
Shum began a relationship with Filipino-American dancer Shelby Rabara in 2007. The two became engaged in October 2013 while on vacation in Hawaii, and were married on November 22, 2015 in Costa Rica. On November 11, 2018, the couple announced via social media that they will be expecting their first child, a baby girl.
