Why so watchable? Costa Rica born Shum (but he’s Chinese) makes you want to bust a move … until you realize he’s just one of those rare human specimens that possess the technique, elegance and hip flair required of a gifted dancer. Being named as one of People Magazine’s 2011 “Sexiest Men Alive” proves he isn’t too shabby in the looks department either.
Go with the sow: “I haven’t pulled a prank since high school, so its been a while. Our mascot was the eagle and it would sit on the roof of our school, so one time we decided to take the mascot and put pigs on the roof. Real pigs. Six of them. Basically we had this farmup on the roof … a whole bunch of hay and pig pen. Then we took pictures and laid them around the quad.”
Shum’s Yums: “I try to be a good host, but I can’t stick to one particular theme because I like mixing things – different cultures and different types of food. It’s like, ‘We’re having a Mexican/Korean/Japanese/Italian type dish.’ I like to try and pull tastes out. I figured out this recipe for the Kogi Taco trucks – they make braised short ribs with cabbage and this vinegar spice on it in little tacos. It’s a mixture of Mexican and Korean, and I love making that now.”
Chums of Shum: “Your parents shape you to a half way mold and then it’s your friends. I still have my same cory friends I’ve had since 3rd grade. Luckily I have four of them in Los Angeles. And I think that’s definitely helped me to feel comfortable in such a big enviroment. We just stick together … like Entourage”
Good rule for Shum: “The world is a simple place; don’t make it difficult. My dad always taught me that. We can go one way or another. You can make it simple or you can make it way more complicated for yourself.”
